Interview C.G - Goat Piss

From the most abysmal of the putrid and annihilating black/death metal emerges a tremendous Noise annihilator, loaded with a bass that will make your damn brain rumble; A man who is clear about what he does, and how he does it, a member of GOATPISS, no one will tell you that this is okay, because that is the goal, to make their ears bleed while they are filled with pleasure and hatred.

C.G, it is really a pleasure that you have accepted the invitation to this interview, receive a cordial and infernal greeting from Witchhammer and all its readers, personally a very desired interview.

At what age did you start playing, bass is your specialty, there's no doubt about that, but do you also play other instruments?

C: Thank you very much for having me and what an incredible introduction! I started off playing saxophone in the school band in elementary school. Then, a few years later I was gifted an acoustic guitar, which I had messed around with but didn't get much into. I picked up a bass after that because a lot of friends were playing guitar.  I wanted to try something different, I picked up a bass and that became my main instrument. As it stands now,  I've been playing for 25 years on the bass alone. I've gotten heavy into electronic music over the last 10 years, so I've started a synthesizer collection and 2 years ago put out an album under the moniker, GLOOMLURKER.

Member of a very corrosive band GOATPISS, tell us about its members and the role of each of them in the band (we send a hellish greeting to each of them)

C: M.W the drummer,  writes most of the music. He and I collaborate on a few songs as well.  It's easy with only the two of us writing, there's virtually no dispute when it comes to writing riffs .

M.P, the vocalist and noise pulverizer writes the lyrics. He brings another disgusting oozing layer of filth to the mix.

How did the inspiration come about to create this brutality of a band, what is your reference vitriol, what year was it created and why only bass and drums in the instrumental?

C: M.W and I started GP in 2020. We knew we wanted to make a band that was fast, abrasive and to make it as harsh as possible. Taking inspiration from Revenge and other similar bands, we wrote and recorded our first demo, “Cacophony of Piss”.

 M.W and I started the band as a side project from our main band at the time, Vivisect. We didn't want to complicate things with too many members. There’s usually never much disagreement for the songs as they're written. The both of us thought it would be different to be a bass only band and to still have the attack of a guitar driven band. Overall, we went for the most disgusting sounding thing we could possibly make and we’re happy with the results.

Nowadays, a new band is often born, all with similar bases, but there is always something that makes them stand out from the everyday, tell us what stands out in Goatpiss that makes it different from the rest, what do the lyrics say or are they just noise?             

C: I think the fact that we are a bass only band sets us apart a bit from orders in the genre. Sonically, I feel there are few bands that take it to the extreme limits of what they are capable of doing, so we try to push that boundary harder and harder. Lyrically, we lean more towards war, medieval warfare and human suffering.

Tell us about your first work Cacophony of Piss, a pure brutality, under what references it was executed, where the art comes from and who is in charge of the formation of the instrumental and lyrics. 

C: Cacophony was written by both M.W and I. M.P, our vocalist hadn’t joined the band yet.  I wrote the lyrics and performed the vocals on that demo. We had recorded the demo in our basement ( we had shared a house at the time) in a weekend. We ultimately just set out to have fun and make the gnarliest sounding music we could and I feel M.W and I attained that on Cacophony. The recording process was fairly quick. We recorded all the music straight to tape in one weekend, then tracked vocals the following weekend.  I had written the intro track on my Juno synth during a jam session and Cacophony was born.  We picked the infamous Warhead Art for the cover.  We felt his work fit with the tone of our music and has done our logo as well as all art. As far as lyrics go,  I wrote all the lyrics and performed vocals. M.W provided some backing vocals. The lyrics are a mix of themes including medieval warfare, Vlad the Impaler, LoTR, and plague.

I want to congratulate your latest release Subsonic Obliteration one of my favourite works, I mean it's in my top 10, from the intro to the final tomb there's a lot of aggression, is there any particular reference that caused this fucking loud outburst? How would you describe the creative process around the creation of this latest offering? Is it different from the usual way of approaching recording like the first work?

C: For Subsonic, we knew we wanted to build off of Cacophony in terms of speed and intensity. M.W took more of the lead on writing, with myself lending some riffs here and there.  With M.P now in the band,  we added the extra layer of harsh noise, which we feel,  took things to another level. The big difference between Subsonic and Cacophony is the gear I used and the addition of the noise element. We feel we had an even more raw and unnerving sounding recording.

What is the ideology of GOATPISS about, which they want to convey to all their followers. Can you tell us something about the conceptual work behind the music? Also Their image is very martial, especially because of how they cover their heads up to their face. What does this "image" mean to you? 

C: In terms of ideology,  we touch on the more brutal aspects of life. I feel that mirrors the sound of the music we make. Goat Piss never had a particular message, just setting out to (sub)sonically obliterate the listeners.  The head coverings, chains and spikes definitely make the mood. It makes the live show more interesting  intense and mysterious. 

Since its beginnings, how do you see the reception from the people, the most memorable presentation you have had, and what band is the most significant with which you have shared the stage? 

C: We started the band to have a good time playing extreme music and have gotten a great reception from fans  and the bands we play with. To meet so many amazing people and bands, we're very grateful. The Ruin Lust guys had us out with them for a show. Very solid dudes and a fucking hell of a band. We've shared the stage with some extremely talented bands, SKVM (Maine), SYN (New Jersey) Weird Angel (Massachusetts), Heretic Body Hammer (NYC) to name a few. 

They remain in the underground, tell us about their future shows. In the sense of presentations, is it difficult for Goat Piss to accept one? 

C: Goat Piss has anyways preferred to play fewer shows.  As of this moment, we have nothing planned.  The band is currently working on our first full length album so we've decided to take a bit of a break until it's done. We try to take shows that are as close to our style as possible and for that reason, we play somewhat seldom.4

C.G has more bands than Goatpiss?, you are a mystery, and today we want you to reveal everything to us.

C: I've been in quite a few bands since I've started playing music.  I had death metal band in high school then joined a black thrash band that I was with for 11 years. During that time I’d played in a couple grind bands and a doom band with Goat Piss vocalist M.P. I had joined a death metal band in 2018 where I had met M.W. Two years later,  we formed Goat Piss. Gloomlurker is also have a side project of mine, which is strictly electronic.  I've always been heavily into music my whole life and enjoy many different genres. It's been a lot of fun to play so many different styles of music.  Currently, Goat Piss is the only thing on working on now.

Are you satisfied with the work done? In your role as listener how does it make you feel to listen to your final work?

C: I am satisfied but there always room for improvement.  I'm excited to see how we grow as a band. Our aim is to continually make the most sonically devastating music we can. I do enjoy giving both releases a spin now and then. I try to listen to them as a whole and not critique anything. It usually gets me pretty pumped when I listen to the stuff. 

Were both works released independently?

C: Cacophony was released by Witch Hand productions out of the Oregon, he was great to work with and we’re glad he took a chance on us.  Subsonic Obliteration was released by Frozen Screams or of Long Island. We plan on shopping the full length around to some labels after it's recorded. 

It's clear that you take your time to release something. Nowadays many bands release works one after another, but you do it differently. Maybe you have thought about doing a split with a band that is in your style, what's coming for this band in the future? Goatpiss is already burning something new right now?

C: Admittedly we are slow to release things but we enjoy taking our time, not trying to rush things. Quality over quantity.

 We are currently working on our first full length album. The songs are written, it's just a matter of learning everything and getting the feeling right.  We hope to start recording around the new year. It’s shaping up to be more devastating than Subsonic. We have even debuted a new song in the last few shows we've played.  The reaction has been great so far.

De lo más abismal del pútrido y aniquilador del black/death metal surge un tremendo demoledor de ruido, cargado de un bajo que hará retumbar tu maldito cerebro; un hombre que tiene claro lo que hace, y cómo lo hace, miembro de GOATPISS, nadie te dirá que eso está bien, porque ese es el objetivo, hacer sangrar sus oídos mientras se llenan de placer y odio.

C.G, es realmente un placer que hayas aceptado la invitación a esta entrevista, recibe un cordial e infernal saludo de Witchhammer y todos sus lectores, en lo personal una entrevista muy deseada.

A qué edad empezaste a tocar, el bajo es tu especialidad, de eso no hay duda, pero ¿también tocas otros instrumentos?

C: Muchas gracias por invitarme y ¡qué increíble introducción! Empecé tocando el saxofón en la banda de la escuela en la primaria. Luego, unos años después me regalaron una guitarra acústica, con la que había estado jugando, pero no me había metido mucho en eso. Después de eso, cogí un bajo porque muchos amigos tocaban la guitarra. Quería probar algo diferente, cogí un bajo y se convirtió en mi instrumento principal. Tal como están las cosas ahora, llevo 25 años tocando solo el bajo. Me he metido de lleno en la música electrónica en los últimos 10 años, así que empecé una colección de sintetizadores y hace 2 años saqué un álbum bajo el nombre de GLOOMLURKER.

Miembro de una banda muy corrosiva, GOATPISS, cuéntanos sobre sus miembros y el papel de cada uno de ellos en la banda (enviamos un saludo infernal a cada uno de ellos)

C: M.W, el baterista, escribe la mayor parte de la música. Él y yo colaboramos en algunas canciones también. Es fácil escribir solo entre los dos, prácticamente no hay disputas cuando se trata de escribir riffs. M.P, el vocalista y pulverizador de ruido, escribe las letras. Aporta otra repugnante capa de suciedad a la mezcla.

¿Cómo surgió la inspiración para crear esta brutalidad de banda? ¿Cuál es tu vitriolo de referencia? ¿En qué año se creó y por qué solo bajo y batería en la parte instrumental?

C: M.W y yo comenzamos GP en 2020. Sabíamos que queríamos hacer una banda que fuera rápida, abrasiva y lo más dura posible. Inspirándonos en Revenge y otras bandas similares, escribimos y grabamos nuestro primer demo, “Cacophony of Piss”.

M.W y yo comenzamos la banda como un proyecto paralelo de nuestra banda principal en ese momento, Vivisect. No queríamos complicar las cosas con demasiados miembros. Por lo general, nunca hay mucho desacuerdo sobre las canciones tal como están escritas. Ambos pensamos que sería diferente ser una banda solo de bajo y aún así tener el ataque de una banda impulsada por la guitarra. En general, optamos por hacer lo que sonara más desagradable que pudiéramos hacer y estamos contentos con los resultados.

Hoy en día, muchas veces nace una nueva banda, todas con bases similares, pero siempre hay algo que las hace destacar de lo cotidiano, cuéntanos qué destaca en Goatpiss que la hace diferente al resto, ¿qué dicen las letras o son solo ruido?

C: Creo que el hecho de que seamos una banda de solo bajo nos diferencia un poco de los órdenes del género.

Sonoramente, siento que hay pocas bandas que lleven el límite extremo de lo que son capaces de hacer, así que tratamos de empujar ese límite cada vez más. Líricamente, nos inclinamos más hacia la guerra, la guerra medieval y el sufrimiento humano.

Cuéntanos sobre tu primer trabajo Cacophony of Piss, una brutalidad pura, bajo qué referencias fue ejecutado, de dónde viene el arte y quién está a cargo de la formación de lo instrumental  y las letras.

C: Cacophony fue escrito tanto por M.W como por I.M.P, nuestro vocalista aún no se había unido a la banda. Yo escribí la letra e interpreté las voces en esa demo. Habíamos grabado la demo en nuestro sótano (habíamos compartido una casa en ese momento) en un fin de semana. En última instancia, nos propusimos divertirnos y hacer la música con el sonido más genial que pudiéramos y siento que M.W y yo lo logramos en Cacophony. El proceso de grabación fue bastante rápido. Grabamos toda la música directamente en cinta en un fin de semana, luego grabamos las voces el fin de semana siguiente. Había escrito la pista de introducción en mi sintetizador Juno durante una sesión de improvisación y nació Cacophony. Elegimos el infame arte Warhead para la portada. Sentimos que su trabajo encajaba con el tono de nuestra música y ha hecho nuestro logotipo así como todo el arte. En cuanto a las letras, yo escribí todas las letras y canté. M.W aportó algunos coros. Las letras son una mezcla de temas que incluyen la guerra medieval, Vlad el Empalador, ESDLA y la plaga.

Quiero felicitarlos por su último lanzamiento, Subsonic Obliteration, uno de mis trabajos favoritos, quiero decir que está en mi top 10, desde la introducción hasta la tumba final hay mucha agresión, ¿hay alguna referencia particular que haya causado este estallido jodidamente fuerte? ¿Cómo describirías el proceso creativo en torno a la creación de esta última oferta? ¿Es diferente de la forma habitual de abordar la grabación como el primer trabajo?

C:Para Subsonic, sabíamos que queríamos construir a partir de Cacophony en términos de velocidad e intensidad. M.W tomó más la iniciativa en la composición, y yo aporté algunos riffs aquí y allá. Ahora que M.P está en la banda, añadimos una capa adicional de ruido áspero que, en nuestra opinión, llevó las cosas a otro nivel. La gran diferencia entre Subsonic y Cacophony es el equipo que utilicé y la adición del elemento de ruido. Sentimos que logramos una grabación con un sonido aún más crudo y desconcertante.

¿Cuál es la ideología de GOAT PISS que quieren transmitir a todos sus seguidores? ¿Nos puedes contar algo sobre el trabajo conceptual detrás de la música? También su imagen es muy marcial, especialmente por cómo se cubren la cabeza hasta la cara. ¿Qué significa esto para ti?

C: En términos de ideología, tocamos los aspectos más brutales de la vida. Siento que eso refleja el sonido de la música que hacemos. Goat Piss nunca tuvo un mensaje en particular, solo se propuso animar (sub)sónicamente a los oyentes. Los tocados, las cadenas y los pinchos definitivamente crean el ambiente. Hacen que el espectáculo en vivo sea más interesante, intenso y misterioso.

Desde sus inicios, ¿cómo ves la recepción de la gente, la presentación más memorable que has tenido y qué banda es la más significativa con la que has compartido escenario?

C: Empezamos la banda para pasar un buen rato tocando música extrema y hemos tenido una gran recepción de los fans y las bandas con las que tocamos. Conocer a tanta gente y bandas increíbles,

estamos muy agradecidos. Los chicos de Ruin Lust nos invitaron a un concierto. Son tipos muy sólidos y una banda increíble. Hemos compartido escenario con algunas bandas extremadamente talentosas, SKVM (Maine), SYN (New Jersey), Weird Angel (Massachusetts), Heretic Body Hammer (NYC), por nombrar algunas.

Siguen en el underground, cuéntanos sobre sus futuros shows. En cuanto a presentaciones, ¿es difícil para Goat piss aceptar una?

C: De todos modos, Goat Piss ha preferido tocar menos shows.

Por el momento, no tenemos nada planeado. La banda está trabajando actualmente en nuestro primer álbum de larga duración, así que hemos decidido tomarnos un pequeño descanso hasta que esté terminado. Tratamos de hacer shows que se acerquen lo más posible a nuestro estilo y por esa razón, tocamos con poca frecuencia.

C.G tiene más bandas que Goat piss?, eres un misterio y hoy queremos que nos reveles

todo.

C: He estado en bastantes bandas desde que comencé a tocar música. Tuve una banda de death metal en la escuela secundaria y luego me uní a una banda de thrash negro con la que estuve durante 11 años. Durante ese tiempo, toqué en un par de bandas de grind y una banda de doom con el vocalista de Goat Piss, M.P. Me uní a una banda de death metal en 2018 donde conocí a M.W. Dos años después, formamos Goat Piss.

Gloomlurker también tiene un proyecto paralelo mío, que es estrictamente electrónico. Siempre he estado muy metido en la música toda mi vida y disfruto de muchos géneros diferentes. Ha sido muy divertido tocar tantos estilos de música diferentes. Actualmente, Goat Piss es lo único en lo que estoy trabajando ahora.

¿Estás satisfecho con el trabajo realizado? En tu rol de oyente, ¿cómo te sientes al escuchar tu trabajo final?

C: Estoy satisfecho, pero siempre hay lugar para mejorar. Estoy emocionado de ver cómo crecemos como banda. Nuestro objetivo es hacer continuamente la música más devastadora desde el punto de vista sonoro que podamos. Disfruto probando ambos lanzamientos de vez en cuando. Intento escucharlos como un todo y no criticar nada.

Por lo general, me entusiasma mucho escuchar el material.

¿Ambos trabajos se lanzaron de forma independiente?

C: Cacophony fue lanzado por Witch Hand Productions de Oregon, fue genial trabajar con él y estamos contentos de que se haya arriesgado con nosotros. Subsonic Obliteration fue lanzado por Frozen Screams de Long Island. Planeamos ofrecer el álbum completo a algunos sellos después de que esté grabado.

Está claro que se toman su tiempo para lanzar algo. Hoy en día muchas bandas lanzan trabajos uno tras otro, pero ustedes lo hacen de forma diferente tal vez tienen pensado en hacer un Split con una banda de su estilo, ¿qué le espera a esta banda en el futuro? ¿Goat piss ya está grabando algo nuevo ahora mismo?

C: Es cierto que somos lentos para lanzar cosas, pero disfrutamos tomándonos nuestro tiempo, sin intentar apresurar las cosas. Calidad antes que cantidad.

Actualmente estamos trabajando en nuestro primer álbum de larga duración. Las canciones están escritas, es sólo cuestión de aprender todo y conseguir la sensación adecuada. Esperamos empezar a grabar alrededor del año nuevo. Se perfila que será más devastador que Subsonic. Incluso hemos estrenado una nueva canción en los últimos shows que hemos dado. La reacción ha sido genial hasta ahora.
